We eat to satisfy our hunger now.
We indulge to meet a craving right now.
What we hear is the sound happening in this moment.
What we see are the visuals unfolding right here.
We breathe for this moment.
Our heart beats to keep us alive in the now.
And yet, why is it that the mind so easily wanders into the past and the future?
The Mind Isn’t the Enemy
The mind has an important job.
It stores the past as memory.
It imagines the future through visualization.
Memory exists to support the present, not to consume it.
The future is meant to guide our actions now, not to become a place of worry.
When the mind does what it was designed to do, it’s helpful.
But when it takes over the present moment, it quietly steals our peace.
Gently Bringing the Mind Back
We relive what already happened.
We worry about what hasn’t arrived.
Meanwhile, the body stays grounded – breathing, sensing, living always in the now.
Let your body be the anchor and gently bring the mind back home.
Take a breath.
Notice a sound.
Feel the ground beneath your feet.
Remind the mind of its true role: to serve the moment, not escape from it.
Before you go, ask yourself:
What helps you come back to the present?
