I’ve always found early mornings challenging, mostly because I don’t sleep well. I would hit the snooze button and try to catch a few minutes of sleep between every snooze. Eventually, when I finally woke up, it would be late and I’d jump straight into my day quickly and abruptly.
Recently, I tried something that made waking up easier for me. I started greeting my morning and interacting with it. I keep my window blinds slightly open so the sunlight can gently nudge me awake. That soft light feels like a reminder that I don’t have to do everything at once, just take the next step. Not rushing. Not forcing. Just having a quiet conversation with the day as it arrives. It sounds unusual, but it has helped me ease into wakefulness with kindness instead of pressure. I woke with the day instead of waking into the day.
That tiny shift, that “conversation” with my morning, gives me enough strength to follow through with my routine instead of skipping parts of it. For example, drinking water on an empty stomach is part of my morning habit, but I used to skip it and go straight for coffee. Somehow, when I started talking to my morning, acknowledging it, being present with it, I didn’t feel the urge to skip anything. My routine finally felt like a supportive rhythm, not a checklist. And it all started with a conversation between me and my morning.☀️
🌅 Here’s what a morning interaction looks like:
Step 1: Greet It
Before reaching for your phone, take a deep deep breath.
Say good morning to the sunlight, the stillness, and yourself.
Step 2: Notice the Details
How does the air feel? What sounds do you hear?
Let awareness be your first act of the day.
Step 3: Cleanse
Reset with a warm shower. It feels like wiping the slate clean.
Drink water to cleanse your body from the inside.
Step 4: Reflect Briefly
Write one line of gratitude.
Whisper one kind thought.
That’s your way of saying, “I’m here. I’m ready to begin.”
Let me know in the comments what you think, or share how your morning looks. 🌞
