The only way to make sense out of change is to
plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.
-Alan Watts

I recently went through a big change in my life. I moved from the west coast to the east this summer with my family. We have been planning to move for quite some time. I would back-out because I was afraid of the change. Not only that, after we moved I was anxious and unsure about the change. Now, 3 months later, I realize my life is enhanced with new perspectives, new experiences, new people!
We feel safe when we are in a known environment. Change could trigger fear and for most of us it might feel uncomfortable at first. Fear of change is not going to disappear magically. We need to have faith and we need to constantly talk ourselves out of fearing change because – change is inevitable and change is good! Let’s dive in and see why change is good.
Change makes life flow
A change might be out of choice or something that happens unexpectedly. A change might bring you happiness or distress, stress or calm. A change could be the start of a relationship or the end of a relationship. A change is just the next stop but not the end of the world. When we don’t expect a change it’s a blessing in disguise. Change is probably the one thing that has the potential to get us out of a rut. Without change life would be less adventurous and boring.
Change is like a reset button:
When life throws a change at you it is actually giving you a reset button. It is an opportunity to reset some things in your life that you don’t like. For example, before the move I was always doing things last minute. I would forget things like ordering my kids school pictures or year book and then do a lot of reaching out at the eleventh hour. Things would have been simple if I had done it on time. I wished I was more organized. When I moved I took it as a fresh start and identified myself as an organized person. I cleared out my old habits. I feel more organized than ever before. Things are in place most of the time and I’m less forgetful.
I believe in most cases change is an opportunity to restart life. A career change or a personal change whatever it may be, it is a good opportunity to start from a blank slate. You can use the change to make your life simple.
Change can force you to become the person you want to be
Let’s not underestimate the universe. It’s listening to you. It will force a change in your life to help you become the person you want to be or you ought to be.
I always wanted to wake up early but I was unable to. I broke so many new year’s resolutions. Thanks to the universe. In Virginia, where we moved, certain schools start very early. Guess what, my child goes to one of them. I had no choice except to wake up early in the morning!
Change can sculpt and shape you. Change makes you resilient and stronger. Change can surprise you and get you closer to your goal. It can help you understand your purpose and potential.
Change brings new people and experiences into your life
Change allows you to meet new people. The best part is that you have more connections now – those who you knew before and those you meet now.
When change happens, welcome it. It’s the way for the universe to introduce you to new experiences. With new experiences you gain new perspectives. Accepting change is the only way we can evolve and grow. Embracing change opens a lot of doors.
Change is a good time to assess what is important to you
As we roll with life we simply rinse and repeat things. We don’t have time or allocate time to understand what we value and what we don’t. Change is a good time to find what bothers you the most and try to address that.
For me it was reducing clutter and tidiness. I have prioritized those over other things. Decluttering has brought home clarity and calmness to everyone in my family.
When there is a change ahead of you rethink what you need and what you need to let go.
Conclusion
I cannot think of a situation where a change has had a negative impact on me. Yes change has a lot of unknowns. But if you don’t change, the unknowns will remain as unknowns. Staying in the same zone does not do much to your growth. Believe that the change will bring good things and IT WILL!
